With the end of the COVID-19 epidemic, the Bethune Medical Development Association of Canada (BMDAC)'s free medical consultation activities in China will be restarted on October 11, 2023, which is the twentieth "Contemporary Bethune Charity Tour". At that time, the association will send about 30 medical professionals (divided into 9 medical teams and 1 administrative team including cardiac surgery, cardiology, thoracic surgery, neurosurgery, neurology, general surgery, and orthopedics) to the First Affiliated Hospital of Hainan Medical College The hospital, Jinan People's Hospital, the Second Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University, Shijiazhuang People's Hospital and other 27 hospitals to carry out free medical exchange activities.

This exchange event was led by President Lee Edward Errett, an academician of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada, a famous cardiac surgeon and winner of the 2021 Chinese Government Friendship Award. The trip is encouraged by the Consulate General of China in Toronto and the National Ministry of Science and Technology The Department of Foreign Experts Affairs, Jiangsu Provincial Bureau of Foreign Experts Affairs, Henan Provincial Department of Science and Technology, Zhejiang Provincial Department of Science and Technology, Shandong Provincial Department of Science and Technology, Hainan Provincial Medical Association. Canada-China Science and Technology Alliance and other institutions have provided strong support and coordination.

Bethune Medical Development Association of Canada was registered and established in 2011. Its purpose is to promote Bethune's internationalism, inherit his humanitarian dedication, promote medical exchanges between Canada and China, and promote the development of borderless medical technology. . Since 2012, the association has organized Canadian medical experts to visit hospitals in China twice a year to conduct free clinics and academic exchanges. They have treated more than 1,000 patients, successfully completed more than 500 surgeries, and organized more than 600 academic lectures. The association currently has about 400 members, including medical professors, doctors, and scientific researchers from many well-known universities and hospitals in Canada and China. There are also a few members from the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia and other countries.

The Shanghai Medical College (SMC) of Fudan University, led by Deputy dean Ms. Wu Fan, came to Toronto on September 28-29, 2023, to discuss medical exchange and cooperation with BMDAC. This visit is a continuation of BMDAC’s celebration of the 95th anniversary of Shanghai Medical College in October 2022. The delegation was very interested in Canada’s medical education system and related projects, and visited North America’s first all-digital hospital, Humber River Hospital, and the most advanced medical simulation teaching center, the Alan Waters Family Simulation Center. BMDAC and SMC had in-depth discussions on cooperation areas and projects.

 

This reception is the first offline celebration of National Day after the epidemic, a reception celebrating the 74th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and welcoming Consul General Mr. Luo Weidong. It coincided with a delegation from Shanghai Medical College of Fudan University visiting Toronto to discuss medical exchange and cooperation with BMDAC. The delegation from Shanghai Medical College celebrated the birthday of the motherland with many overseas Chinese in Toronto.
