BMDAC visited Meizhou People’s Hospital
Oct 25-29, 2023
Our trip to Meizhou is the second stop of our medical exchange between China and Canada. Together with our colleagues from Meizhou People’s Hospital, we witnessed the signing ceremony of medical exchange and cooperation between Meizhou People’s Hospital and the Bethune Medical Development Association of Canada under the initiative of the Ministry of Science and Technology. At the ceremony, leaders from the National Ministry of Science and Technology, Guangdong Provincial Department of Science and Technology, Bethune Medical Development Association of Canada, and Meizhou People's Hospital all made speeches, attaching great importance to the exchange projects between the two companies. After four days of medical exchanges with the doctors from Meizhou People's Hospital, we deeply realized that this importance is not only reflected in words, but also reflected in the concrete borderless medical exchanges and cooperation between us.
One of the main areas of expertise of Dr. Sia from the Canadian cardiology department that I accompanied was cardiac ultrasound. So, our first stop was the Ultrasound Department of Meizhou People’s Hospital. The Ultrasound Department of Meizhou People's Hospital is a department with very comprehensive technologies. After spending two days together, we deeply felt the serious and responsible working attitude of the ultrasonic doctors. Director Zhang of the Ultrasound Department also attached great importance to our visit and prepared several difficult cases. Not only that, she also personally performed two cases of esophageal ultrasound. During the operation, she also raised some operational difficulties that she had been confused about for a long time. ,Dr. Sia performed on-site practice based on the knowledge he had learned and his own operating experience, and explained the techniques, so that Dr. Zhang immediately understood the trick. In two days of getting along, we learned a lot from each other.
Dr. Lan, director of the Department of Critical Care Medicine, is an expert in ECMO practice. He couldn’t wait to rush us from the ultrasound department to their department. He said that he had many questions to ask about ECMO. We were very shocked when we entered their department. Nearly 20 young doctors in the department were waiting at the door, with smiles on their faces that were seeking knowledge. Director Lan first presented a summary of his practice in ECMO in the past few years in the form of a slide. At the end of the slide, he raised five problems he encountered in his work. Dr. Sia answered these questions based on international consensus. Questions were answered one by one. The discussion on the spot was very lively. The young critical care experts had many questions to ask. Answering the questions had to be interrupted by Director Lan's ward rounds.
Although Meizhou People's Hospital, like many hospitals, has doctors of three age groups, senior, middle-aged and young, there is no generation gap between the doctors at all in the process of getting along with them. Dean Zhong is the representative of senior doctors. His age is completely invisible. He is active in thinking and actively participates in various activities of young people, supporting them and guiding them. We have reason to believe that Meizhou People's Hospital will become better and better.
