Bethune Medical Development Association of Canada and Jiangsu Changzhou University signed a contract to build Changzhou University Bethune Modern Medical Research Institute |
September 22, 2023 On September 22, the video signing ceremony of the Bethune Institute of Modern Medical Research of Changzhou University was held in the Science and Education City Campus of Changzhou University. Dr.Lee Errett, President of the Bethune Medical Development Association of Canada, Dai Gang, Director of the Department of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Xia Bing, Deputy Director of the China Association of International Personnel Exchange Centers, Peng Hao, Science and Technology Counselor of the Chinese Consulate General in Toronto, and Peng Mingguo, Vice President of Changzhou University attended the signing ceremony. Bethune Medical Development Association of Canada, China Association for International Exchange of Personnel, Chinese Consulate General in Toronto, relevant departments of Changzhou University and college officials attended the video signing ceremony. The signing of the establishment of the Bethune Institute of Modern Medical Research of Changzhou University marks the official launch of the comprehensive strategic cooperation between Changzhou University and the Bethune Medical Development Association of Canada. The signing of this strategic cooperation letter of intent has set up a platform for medical discipline construction and talent training at a higher level, which has played a strong role in improving the quality of new medical talent training of Changzhou University, enhancing the construction level of medical disciplines, and promoting high-quality development. It is hoped that the two sides will take this as a beginning, rely on their respective resource advantages, build a platform, improve the mechanism, deepen cooperation, strengthen exchanges, and create a win-win situation. Dr.Lee Errett and Peng Mingguo signed the agreement on behalf of both parties. After the meeting, Dr.Veronica Wadey, associate professor of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto, Canada, gave a lecture entitled "Effective Musculoskeletal(MSK) Education:Curricula: Assessments & Education Models.

Dr. Zhou, Yuan attended the international exchange symposium of Qilu Hospital of Shandong University and visited paediatric ICU to see the ECMO donated by the BMDAC |
August 25, 2023 Dr. Zhou Yuan, executive vice president of BMDAC attended the international exchange symposium organized by Qilu Hospital. Dr. Chen Yuguo, president of Qilu Hospital, attended the meeting and delivered a welcome speech. He thanked to the BMDAC for donating an ECMO machine to fight against Covid 19 in Wuhan. Dr. Zhou expressed his congratulations on the great achievements of Qilu hospital, where he used to work thirty years ago. He also introduced the Canada-Chinese medical exchanges carried out by the BMDAC. Dr. Cheng Yufeng, vice president of Qilu Hospital, chaired the meeting. The directors of the president's office, the department of international cooperation, the department of out-patients, the department of critical care medicine and the former leaders of the Wuhan medical team also attended the symposium. After the symposium, with accompanied by Director Dong Laidong，director of department of out-patient and Dr. Li Chen, director of critical care medicine, Dr. Zhou Yuan visited the pediatric ICU and inspected the donated ECMO machine, which was being used for a patient. Dr. Li said this machine has been applied to several dozen critical patents for treatment in the last three years.

BMDAC members met Mr. Dai, Consul General of China in Montreal |
April 28, 2023 A private meeting between Consul General of China in Montreal, Mr. Dai Yuming, and Dr. D. Shum-Tim took place at the consul’s office. Broad topics were discussed and exchanged during the one-hour meeting. Consul General Dai appreciated the contributions of “Contemporary Norman Bethune” as well as the “Bethune Medical Development Association of Canada” to deepen the friendship between China and Canada, to organize regular visits of medical specialists to China, and to receive Chinese scholars to Canada. Consul General Dai was very supportive of all these initiatives. He also raised the idea of raising fund to support Chinese fellowship trained in Canada. The meeting concluded with further strengthening of the friendship, collaboration, and exchange of the two countries in the long future.

Return visit to donated ECMO – China-Japan Friendship Hospital in Beijing |
April 24, 2023 On the occasion of participating in the 21st China International Talent Exchange Conference, BMDAC Deputy Secretary-General Amy made a special trip to the China-Japan Friendship Hospital in Beijing to learn about the use of ECMO donated during the epidemic. According to Zhan Qingyuan, Director of the Respiratory ICU Department, the ECMO donated by BMDAC is very suitable and has played a huge role in treating critically ill patients and has treated dozens of patients.
